Biography

Dr. Leen Aerts is an obstetrician-gynecologist. She obtained a Master’s degree in Sexology from the University of Leuven in Belgium and is certified in Psychosomatic and Psychosocial Medicine.

 

For many years, Dr. Aerts worked in the multidisciplinary clinic for female sexual dysfunctions at the University Hospitals in Leuven.

She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2014. Her doctoral research focused on the sexual well-being of women after surgical treatment for gynecological cancer or breast cancer.


From 2014 to 2016, Dr. Aerts held a postdoctoral research position in the “Female Sexual Health” laboratory of Prof. Dr. Sophie Bergeron at the University of Montreal in Canada. She contributed to several multidisciplinary research projects in the field of chronic genital pain and collaborated with sexual medicine specialists and vulvar specialists in Canada and the United States.


From 2016 to 2022, she worked as a staff member in the Department of Gynecology at the University Hospital of Geneva in Switzerland. She was responsible for the outpatient clinic for women with sexual dysfunctions, vulvar pathology, and chronic genital pain. She also worked in the endometriosis center and in the clinic for women with genital mutilation.


In September 2022, she started her private practice in Geneva for women with sexual problems, vulvar pathology, and chronic genital pain. In October 2025, she founded the multidisciplinary center Elle+ in Mechelen in Belgium.

 

Based on her scientific knowledge and clinical experience in the field, she emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and holistic patient care tailored to the current situation of the patient or couple.

 

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Aerts is actively involved in promoting women’s sexual health. She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD), the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), and the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM). She is also a member of the Flemish Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (VVOG) and the Flemish Society of Sexology (VVS).

 

She teaches students and healthcare professionals and conducts research to better understand complex female gynecological conditions and treatments. She is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences and regularly appears on radio programs and in magazines.

Fees and reimbursement
 

Dr. Aerts an accredited, non-contracted physician and sexologist. This means that, in addition to the patient’s personal contribution for the consultation, a supplement is charged.

Your health insurance fund will reimburse part of the consultation based on the official RIZIV/INAMI tariff. The reimbursement certificate will be sent automatically to your health insurance fund after your consultation.

For Belgian patients, the fee for a first consultation is €210. This includes both the preparation and review of your medical file and a 45-minute consultation. The time required to prepare your file may vary depending on the information available and the complexity of your medical history.

During the first 45-minute consultation, there is time for:

  • a comprehensive medical evaluation;

  • a sexological and relationship assessment;

  • a gynaecological examination;

  • the development and discussion of a personalised treatment plan;

  • the provision of certificates and prescriptions.

A follow-up consultation lasts 30 minutes. The fee is €115 for Belgian patients.

If you wish, a report or letter can be prepared after the consultation and sent to your treating and/or referring healthcare professional.

If additional examinations are required, such as an ultrasound or biopsy, additional costs may apply. These examinations are billed directly to your health insurance fund.

You can pay on site after your consultation by:

  • QR code, using your banking app or Payconiq

  • cash

Please note that Bancontact payment is not available at the practice.

Cancellation policy

 

To help us organise the practice and make appointments available to other patients, we kindly ask you to cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 48 hours in advance.

  • If an appointment is cancelled less than 48 hours before the scheduled time, 50% of the consultation fee will be charged.

  • In the event of a no-show, 100% of the consultation fee will be charged.
